DSA

Hey everyone it's me Flash and I am here for a Doggie Service Announcement. I have noticed that lately a few of my friends have written about escaping from their houses or their yards. Now my dear friends I know this seems like a good idea at the time and seems fun while you are running around your yard or down the street with your mom or dad running after you screaming but I want to tell you all about what happens when something goes wrong.
A few years ago I was living in Kentucky with the family. We had a nice big yard and let me tell you I loved that yard but I also liked to get out of the fence by climbing under it and go running around. Well the first few times I did it I got caught right away. One time mom and dad didn't notice right away and couldn't find me but I came back home after a few hours. But let me tell you why I am advising everyone to stay in your yard or house and never leave.
BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO GET LOST AND NOT BE ABLE TO FIND YOUR WAY HOME.
Believe me I know. So listen closely. The last time I got out of my yard. I couldn't find my way home and I was gone for 8 DAYS. I didn't have any food to eat and no one to love and pet me. I was outside in the elements and had to hide from deer and coyotes and everything else. I stunk and my nose got all scraped up and hurt. My feet hurt also. I was scared and sure that I would never make it home again. Lucky for me I finally did find my way home, as mom and dad couldn't find me at all, but not every dog is so lucky.
So listen to me everyone and don't run away. It isn't good. Stay home and let your people love you and feed you and pet you and love you some more and give you cookies.

  1. I know we should all keep that in mind but when the khall of the wild is luring me, my ears go non-funkhtional and I must get SOMEWHERE else...

Even my buddy Laska knows THAT lesson now - he was gone about the same amount of time as woo...he had bears to khontend with...

    Great job with the DSA!

  2. We didn't mean to escape, the fence fell down and wasn't there to stop us. But we're pretty well trained to come when called and Momma always stays outside with us.

  5. Yes, escaping out the front door, or the back gate is so much fun; but mom tells me I shouldn't do it and I am trying to be good~sigh~

  8. Great message. Mom and Dad tell us that too and have installed electric fence just to reinforce the message.

  9. I will try to keep that in mind. It is tempting to go on adventures. Left to myself I would just go down the street to visit that blond labragal neighbor of mine, but last time we got out Pee-Wee ran away and I had to stay with him and we went way too far for our own good.

  15. I learned from your mistake and promise to never, ever, EVER run away from home, Fash.

And I'm glad nothing bad happened to you. 8 days is a very long time to be gone, and I'm glad your story had a happy ending!

  16. That's very good advice. The few times we snuck out, our girl found us before meal time. We didn't even think that we might not get home for dinner or to sleep in the nice house. Thanks for the reminder!

  20. I remember when you did that! You had everybody worried really bad!!!! I got out of my fence at the old house once and went on an adventure just for a few minutes and when I came home and saw how upset and relieved Mom was, I decided I better never do that again.
Great idea sending out the Doggie Service Announcement!

  23. Pee S: we are moving to Barkingham, WA. (It's Bellingham, but he insists on calling it that.) I told my mom and dad that I can't handle even one more winter, and I will put myself up for adoption if we stay here any longer. They didn't have to think about it at all and decided to move.

  29. Couldn't agree with you more, Flash. I'm sure glad you finally found your way home. As for me, I only break leash when I see a squirrel but now I think I'm not going to do that anymore, just in case I keep running and get lost. Besides, what's the use? Squirrels climb trees and I don't.

    Thanks for that important advice.
