For today we thought we would share this. We don't know the author but really like it.
Here in this House....
*
I will never know the loneliness I hear in the barks of the other dogs 'out there'.
I can sleep soundly, assured that when I wake my world will not have changed.
I will never know hunger, or the fear of not knowing if I'll eat.
I will not shiver in the cold, or grow weary from the heat.
I will feel the sun's heat, and the rain's coolness, and be allowed to smell all that can reach my nose.
My fur will shine, and never be dirty or matted.
Here in this house...
There will be an effort to communicate with me on my level.
I will be talked to and, even if I don't understand,
I can enjoy the warmth of the words.
I will be given a name so that I may know who I am among many.
My name will be used in joy, and I will love the sound of it!
Here in this house...
I will never be a substitute for anything I am not.
I will never be used to improve peoples' images of themselves.
I will be loved because I am who I am, not someone's idea of who I should
be.
I will never suffer for someone's anger, impatience, or stupidity.
I will be taught all the things I need to know to be loved by all.
If I do not learn my lessons well, they will look to my teacher for blame.
Here in this house...
I can trust arms that hold, hands that touch...
knowing that, no matter what they do, they do it for the good of me;
If I am ill, I will be doctored.
If scared, I will be calmed.
If sad, I will be cheered.
No matter what I look like, I will be considered beautiful and thought to be
of value.
I will never be cast out because I am too old, too ill, too unruly, or not
cute enough.
My life is a responsibility, and not an afterthought.
I will learn that humans can almost, sometimes, be as kind and as fair as
dogs.

Here in this house...
I will belong.
Later gators,
Flash
Hi Flash,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing it.. it is so touching. I think all of us DWB pups have found 'that' house and I am so grateful for that. I can only wish the same for all the strays and abused pups out there.
lol, no way peanut will leave the house! he's da man! i think he barks at shelby to give him command what he thinks shelby should be doing... like taking care of the house, guard the house etc. lol
ReplyDeletei wanna wish you and the whole family MERRY X'MAS and have a wonderful holiday.

ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us know that Shelby didn't do Peanut in. We are glad that you found that house (and we did too). Hopefully all the doggies (and even some cats - but not mean ones like Shelby) find a house like this.

Great poem Flash-o-roo.
ReplyDeleteOh my,
ReplyDeleteThat was a great poem!
We pups are really lucky this Christmas season to have a warm (or in my case air-conditioned) house, a lap always ready to hold us and people who love us!!
PS: What's up with Shelby?? I do believe he needs a lesson in manners!
Those are nice thoughts, Flash.
ReplyDeleteShelby sounds like the kitties in OUR house. They have attitudes!
That was a great post and made us remember how much we love our home. Especially because there are NO CATS in our house!
ReplyDeleteRock on Flash! I don't know that humans will ever approach our awesomeness but we have found some pretty good ones, eh?

That is great. That is how all dogs should feel. Some many of us feel this same way but we feel sorry for the dogs that don't. Mom wants to open a shelter so bad so she can make a difference to many of the not so fortunate ones...
ReplyDeleteoh Flash that post was just lovely jubbly as we say here in the UK!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that with us all.
Very true words indeed.
I hope you having a nice day, it has been very cold here but the sun is out.
love and licks, Marvin in Scotland xxxxxx
We are glad Peanut is okay.
ReplyDeleteWow ... that poem ...
We are blown away by it. It is so simple but so heartfelt. Thanks for sharing. Here's hoping that Christmas bring "this house" to so many homeless animals.
Roxie, Sammy & Andy
Dear Flash, that poem made our mom cry. It also reminded us that we're pretty lucky, and that we hope all of our friends who need homes find them soon.
ReplyDeletePeace on Earth,
Harvey & Jackson
Flash!
ReplyDeleteVery cool post! My girl wanted to read it over a couple of times. No leaky eyes, but almost.
We definitely have it good. Thanks for the reminder to all of us.
Tell your mama we're thinking of her and all of you this Christmas. I sent a card to your dad. I hope he gets it soon!
Goober love & smooches,
Stanley
That was wonderful! It made mom cry (again), but it was a good one. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Love
Kaos
PS I'm glad to hear that Peanut really isn't gone. Who would pose for all the goofy pictures he does?
